Antigua and Barbuda is an independent Commonwealth state in the Eastern Caribbean. The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) was established by the Honourable Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and is the Government authority responsible for processing all applications for Agent’s Licenses, and all applications for Citizenship by Investment by applicants and their family.

Antigua and Barbuda is a twin-island state located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of two major inhabited islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and a number of smaller islands. The country is nicknamed "Land of 365 Beaches" due to the many beaches surrounding the islands.


The islands’ population is over 91,000. Christians account for account for 74% of the Population. Although English is the official language, Antiguan Creole is spoken widely and over 90% of the total population are literate.


English is the official language and by far the predominant language. French, Spanish and Italian can be heard from time to time.


The climate in Antigua has average temperatures of around 27 °C year round. It is a sunny island enjoyable all months of the year, and with cooler breezy locations in the mountains. The coolest period is between December and February. Its low humidity makes it one of the most temperate climates in the world.


The capital of Antigua is St John’s.


The island has a time difference of 5 hours behind GMT, 1 hour ahead of Washington DC, during standard time.


Antigua has a stable economy, relying mainly on tourism. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar which is linked to the US dollar. Investment banking and financial services also make up an important part of the economy. Major world banks with offices in Antigua include the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Scotiabank. Financial-services corporations with offices in Antigua include PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, car rental companies and shops. Travellers cheques are accepted throughout the Island.

How to get there?

Antigua is less than 3 hours from Miami, 4 hours from New York and Toronto and 8 hours from London, all by direct air service. Port of Spain (Trinidad) is just 40 minutes flight away, Barbados just 60 minutes and South America (Venezuela) 90 minutes. The modern airport accommodates international flights including:

  • British Airways and Virgin Atlantic from London,
  • American Airlines from Miami, Delta and Caribbean Airlines Air Canada and Caribbean Airlines from Toronto,
  • Conviasa from Venezuela.
  • A Liat and SVG provide regional, inter island flights SVG also handle all private jets. VIP airport service is available upon request.
  • Newly added in 2015 a weekly Delta flight from Atlanta and weekly Jet Blue from JFK has been added.

Will I be liable to any taxes in Antigua?
